    Just looking for some clairity

Working on getting the proper ground for a fuel gauge. I understand the gauge needs grounded but also am I to understand that the fuel tank sending units body is also to have a separate ground? Just looking for some confirmation that both need grounded?

From my poking around, I am thinking they still used 6v gauges in these vehicles or something like that. I think there's some kind of voltage regulator setup on there that the shunts the extra power to the extra ground to avoid burning out the gauge with 12v. It looks to me like if that ground was bad, the gauge would get a full 12v and probably fry. Strange design decision!!!

But yeah, I don't really know what I am doing, so I may well not know what I am talking about!

I just put in a new sending unit on my 67 225 v6. It had a seperate ground wire that i attached to the tub behind the seat. The one it replaced was probably original and had no ground wire. I think it was grounded through the tank matal strap. Which is likely why many of them don't work very well. The new one does work. I hope that helps.

Yes indeed there needs to be a good connection to the body from the tank. This was normally through the fuel line however a seperate jumper from the sender unit to a nice clean paint/rust free spot on the tub never hurts. On Tonk I've got the tank sitting on plastic spacers, the hold down is isolated from the tank by a rubber strip, a rubber gasket isolates the fill pipe from the tub and the fuel line has insulating sleeves & a rubber section and I'm *still* showing a good ground to the tub

That voltage regulator design on the gauges is used in lots of vehicles. My '78 Goldwing had one in it.
