Battery Hold-Down?

Hey everybody, what is everyone using (besides a bevy of bungee cords like I am) to hold down their (1975) batteries? I've checked around, nothing aftermarket, just generic/one size fits all kits. anything available if you have the tray just now hold-down?

The 1976 and later battery tray fits the intermediates with a little work. IIRC I had to drill a new hole and add a bolt to the firewall, and work a little on the hole alignment. Plus there were some extra pieces left over. Earlier I bought the correct hold-down from Walcks http://walcks4wd.com/battery-hold-down-12-volt-1957.html Jeep PN 919824 and wasn't happy with its fit on a modern battery, so I bought the later tray to try it out. The '76 tray comes as a kit, and changes the hold-down from lengthwise on top to widthwise at the base. Or you can put together a new hold-down from universal parts, if your tray is in good condition (typically they are not). http://www.dormanproducts.com/c-150-battery-hold-downs.aspx - Any independent parts store can get Dorman stuff.

 

My tray is in really good shape, just needs cleaned up and painted. I have some threaded rod, I'll go out and have a closer look at it. Yeah I was also considering maybe picking up a universal kit off the peg board and using it for fab parts. It's not a show rig, I've just been tired of building a bird nest out of bungee cords and figured it wasn't the safest on a trail rig. Thanks all.

 

I bought a dual battery tray from somewhere. It fit great, went in easy, and was a huge improvement over the remains of the 1972 stock tray. I only have a single battery in it, but the fit and increase in strength were more than worth the price of the tray.

 

I just made one out of stainless that gripped over the fill caps to hold it steady.

 

I used this intermediate tray on my 65 and liked the bracket holding the battery at the bottom.

The battery in my JEEP is so big those clamps don't fit.

I just bought a FLAPS hold kits that is set up similar to DREDnot's.

 

I use the flaps hold downs with a piece of 3/16"x1" strap steel. Drill two holes and voila, instant hold down. I go for and aft on the battery though so if it does shift there is no chance of shorting between the positive and negative terminals like could happen if mounted side to side.

 

I have a post '76 battery tray in my 68. Whenever I remove it I have to play around to get it to bolt in because the holes dont all line up without persuasion. I'll have to look and see how it's bolted in tomorrow.
