Meyers hard top doesn't fit

I can't find my original post about this & only read a few of the possible problems/remedies. So, what I understand from what I did read is that the 1976 & newer Cj's had the same size tub but a raked back windshield & therefore my hard top should be too short if it was for a newer tub. So, maybe someone put on a newer windshield frame on my 1970 tub, which is throwing me all off. That windshield frame looks to be a 1975 and earlier version..............bottom mounted drivers side outside wiper motor and the correct angle for that version.............the 1976 & later windshield frame first off takes different hinges, the wiper motor is also inside on the drivers side and if you were looking at it from the front the 1976 and later version is narrower across the top front corners by several inches (tapered sides!)............as compared to the one you have that is the same dimension across the front both top and bottom. You either have the wrong top for your Jeep or it's been distorted or bent.........sometimes they just need some help to get them to fit? More pictures would be helpful!

 

Top is correct. Would you post a picture of side of windshield at bottom. Where gasket and hinges meet.looking at first picture windshield. Looks like its too far back at top.it can be adjusted

 

The mismatch you see is minor compared to the mismatch you would have with the wrong top or windshield.

It's the right windshield. The wiper motor can on the outside at the bottom IDs it as a 69-75 windshield, which will fit that top.

Replace the cowl-to-windshield rubber gasket to make the windshield sit more upright. You'll need to adjust the catches too. Or you can shim up the gasket with some inner tube or other rubber sheet.

The channel for the bimini top & rag top at the top outside of the windshield seems is in the way. I'd really like to keep it for the bimini top in summer. What should I do? Trim the hard top to fit around it?

 

Most times you can keep the channel on there. I have had to remove one in the past because it just wouldn't fit, but that was a weird one. That is actually really close compared to many I have put on.

You should be able to use the top with the channel left on, the front of the top sits on the top side of the channel. Trying to adjust your windshield (when latched) to mate with the top exactly may be somewhat futile. You can unlatch your windshield frame and bolt the top to the windshield frame using the holes provided in the top. Replacing the seal between the tub and windshield frame or adding something more weatherstipping in there looks to me like the right thing to do. Your windshield frame does look like it sits a little too far back at the top as your soft doors look to me to be pushed back slightly at the top.

I suspect if you were to try mount up the hard doors that came with the top you'd find your windshield angle is a little off compared to the doors.
