I am working on restoring a 1963 CJ5 which I have had for the last 25 years. In part of the project, I am replacing the seats, and have purchased the Rugged Ridge standard low back seats - seen here http://www.ruggedridge.com/low-back-replacement-bucket-seat-black-55-86-jeep-cj-models.html . The problem I am having is the mounting brackets/seat frame for the above the gas tank mounting, etc seem to be built into the old seats and not just a bracket that can be put on. Has anyone had any experience with this? Rugged Ridge suggested trying this, but would need to be modified due to the under seat tank - http://www.ruggedridge.com/driver-side-fold-forward-seat-riser-bracket-76-95-jeep-cj-wrangler.html . Please share any ideas you might have!

What you need are the post-64 seat mounts, these were designed for the "Boseman"(?) bucket seats which are very close to the aftermarket seat designs.

These things come up frequently here & on ebay- try a wanted ad in the classifieds.

*DON"T* cut up the originals- those are in very short supply & worth $$$.

I have a set from my old '74 I will be listing on my for sale thread very soon. I like to think I'm fairly reasonable.

Thanks so much for the reply! I was really considering cutting up the originals, but now I won't. Guess I need to get the dimensions off the old and new ones and see..... I can pretty much bolt into the jeep anywhere, but would obviously prefer not making a bunch of new holes.

I would be very interested in them. Do you know what the spaces between the seat mounting holes are and what the rough dimensions are?

I'm assuming this was for me?

I will measure tonight as I pull them from the old seats. :)

FYI in the pics those are 1" square grid lines.

The spacing on the mounting holes is the same as the '55-'63 one piece seats, they're fully interchangeable.

FYI please keep all offers to buy/sell either in the classifieds or in PMs, as we don't like to see money discussions in the tech sessions.
