    the Ross steering box is a worm and sector arrangement. This is the sector shaft. It has integral teeth that mesh with the worm gear. The pitman arm also attaches to the sector shaft.

    this is how badly worn my shaft was...the jeep has been on the land for last 18 years not the road...

    Now that is really worn out. That steering had to be totally un-manageable.

    Up date on Ross box;
    all together, fairly easy assembly, turns well but
    does have a "tight spot" when rotating the shaft. Turns out there is a slite bend in the worm shaft that I think is causing this, will possibly cause some premature wear on the pivots but it will have to do.

    It only saw the road for a week or so 17+ years ago an then I used it here on my land,,hell the "5" never got out of first!!! I am not sure when it broke off if I would gone into on coming traffic or off the road..eater way it would have been a really bad day!!!!
    Just another thing to add to my list of "Holly ****" things..
    Holly ****,,that might be a good thread..how do I start one..????
