I have an unproven (but told it ran) 225. It is complete and I have several spare parts for it (starter, two carbs, water pump, power steering pump) and the heavy fly wheel. I have a set of cast exhaust manifolds and a set of unknown headers. Where should I start for price? (I sold the jeep, sadly.) It's in the SF Bay Area, CA.

Is this a fair question to ask? I did not want to start a bidding war in the classified section.

    Thanks,

    Eric

If it's complete, fire it up and run it. It'll be worth more if you can prove that it runs.

To me any engine I cannot hear run is a core so $50-$200. If I can hear it run, it runs well, doesn't overheat or leak, etc. then in the $350-$600 range.

Unproven motor is core value to me. Add a few hundred for the other stuff and your normally around 4-5 hundred.

Just my opinion - been bit a couple times on 'was running' engines so thus the attitude on them.

you have already sold the jeep. Now, that engine and the associated claptrap is in the garage and taking up valuable space. You don't need it nor do you want it (hence your posting). So why not price it to move and move quickly?

So, if its a good engine, then you may have sold it for less than it would otherwise be worth, but at this point, who cares?

If its a junk engine, then someone will have bought some scrap metal.

I'd put it up for sale for 104.61 and let someone who really wants it have it! You'll be rid of it, someone will be glad to have it.

Or you could price it at 400 and end up keeping it in the garage gathering dust, mice, and spiders. In ten years it'll be locked up and you might not even be able to get 104.61 for it.

    good luck

If ya want $104.61 for it, let me know. I am in the Bay area fairly often and can take it off your hands. I have the 225 in my 70 CJ-5 and never know when I might need some spare parts (proven or not).

I just recently bought a 1967 225 complete from carb to oil pan, clutch and flywheel but without exhaust manifolds, not running but turning over with a socket and ratchet. I gladly paid $120.00

Just spent $1500 to get a 'was running' I got with a project back running. It filled with water as an intake gasket was in stalled wrong and when it was taken down, found a bent rod in the motor from before - we didn't turn the motor over after it filled with water, so that's not where it came from.

Just reaffirming what I said on price...

Too bad your not closer - I have 3 in the shop.

Road trip! 1200 mi RT, two-three days, couple hundred dollars in gasoline. I hear they have some beautiful scenery in Colorado.

Engine shipping is prohibitive normally - though it is possible the middle boy may move from Schofield to that area. PM me and we can talk more on this if you want.
