Opinions on Data tags

Discussion in 'Jeep Trailer Tech' started by WorkInProgress, Oct 28, 2013.

  1. I was hoping someone out there has replaced their data tag before on their M100. I will be doing this soon on my M100 trailer and wanted to see if others have a preference on where to buy the data tag. I have noticed some places claim their tags are better than another places tag. saying theirs are acid washed vs silk screened? saying one fades away much more than the other? anyone have opinions on this?

Also how would I go about replacing the tag? the old one seems to have some weird puddle of solder or something holding it on, it doesn't look like a rivet and its not a screw. I would prefer to reinstall the new plate with the same process if possible but I could just reinstall using screws or rivets.

  5. I like that they can stamp it for you, that way I don't have to go and buy a stamp set with like 3 sizes but unfortunately they don't look like they sell the one for my Dunbar Kapple M100 trailer

If you can provide a good photo Robert can work from that....but expect to pay extra for a one off plate. jpet on the 2A page posted a while ago how he made his own data plate which is also an option if you want to get involved in it yourself. Use the Advanced search function over there to search his posts and you should find it easily.

I picked my data plate up on eBay, it was very reasonable and I'm very happy with the quality. I stamped the info in myself using a letter punch set I got years ago at Harbor Freight, since I was building a fiberglass reproduction military trailer I stamped my own info in the plate. I attached it to my fiberglass tub with pop rivets; the same method could be used with an original steel tub.
