So I changed the differential oil on my rear Dana 44 axle last night and upon returning to work on the jeep this morning discovered a very large oil puddle under the axle. It seems to be leaking from the pinion shaft oil seal. If I can get the seal from my FLAPS, I'll be changing it.
Has anyone done this that can give me any hints or pointers on what to expect when changing it?

    Thank you in advance

A fairly easy fix, the worst part is cracking the pinion nut loose. If you don't have a big-a$$ impact wrench handy you're in for some fun demonstrating your ingenuity. Other than that you pry to old one out, carefully press the new one in & thats it.

Just went through this front and rear. Got the seals at Autozone. On the rear I used an impact wrench after bending my harbor freight 3/4 breaker bar. On the front I used a giant monkey wrench to hold the yoke and a very long 3/4 ratchet. Maybe I did it wrong, but I had a whole lot of trouble trying to pry out the old seal. Once removed use a little permatex around the edge of the new one and smear some on the splines of the yoke. If the surface of the yoke is damaged it may eat through the new seal, so keep that in mind. Mine also had a small paper type gasket behind the seal. I couldn't find a new one so I left it out.

I did the rear in my 59 this past summer, the nut came right off. Mark and count the number of threads so you can put it back on in the same place, yoke took A LOT of convincing. Had to really heat it up, which melted the old leaking seal anyway, tapped on it a bit with a heavy hammer and eventually it popped free.
