Use caution with this link. Dauntless 225 is not an AMC/Jeep application. The input shaft length and bell housing adapters must be verified for correct fit. This would be the place to start http://shop.rp4wd.com/product/red-transmission, GM/Jeep application, still must know correct questions to ask, and make sure you tell them specificly what it is going to mount to. Large hole/Small hole D18?
Any modification takes GREAT attention to detail.

The Borg Warner Ford Truck ( not the B&W Jeep ) version of the T-18 4 speed "Granny Low" 6:32 gear transmission is by far the most popular and easiest to install............Period.
Notwithstanding the fact that in the Industrial marketplace these same transmissions are still found in Heavy Duty fork lifts, off road drilling vehicles , well and oil field pumps and a host of other Commercial applications...........The supply chain on that side of the industry far exceeds the use factor compared to the Jeep / off road side so parts are cheap and easy to find if you follow that Commercial sourcing!

You're right... your link is the one I was looking at yesterday...I'll edit.

ETA: If I can find a way to swing it, I may do this swap this coming spring.

When/if you get to that point, we will talk. I have done the SM465 and T18 routes in the last few years and have several SM465s and an NP435 in the parts stack.

Reading all the 4 speed swap posts this week so when I came cross T18 in the local CL I took a look. Guy is selling a T18 from a 70s Cherokee/Wagoneer. Says it has the 6:32/1 ratio in it. Notes that it has a longer input shaft than a CJ would use, but that it could be swapped of use an adapter. Casting says T18-1B. Asking $250. Is this something that would swap into my 66 CJ6 V6 easily other than the shaft? Is the shaft a straight forward swap?
    Thanks

    Yes and No.
If it looks relatively nice inside I would consider that a good deal.

It should already be set up with the correct rear adpter plate.
That plate should mount directly onto a big hole D18 and will require a 29 tooth 6 spline mainshaft gear.

The maindrive gear is fairly easy to change out.
It will also need a different or else a modified front bearing retainer to fit the maindrive length and the BOP bellhousing index bore.

The biggest single obstacle is that the case will not directly bolt to the BOP bellhousing.
There are 4 different ways to deal with the bolt pattern problem.

    1) Use a combination of 2 different factory adapters up front.
This in effect creates an overly long transmission for short wheel based Jeeps

    2) Swap the internal parts into a modified Ford T18 case.
You have to drill and tap the Ford case to fit the bellhousing and also to fit the rear Jeep D18 adapter plate.

    3) Weld two additional front bosses onto the Jeep case and drill those holes to match the BOP pattern.
Also one of the top Jeep T18 holes will require filing.
Install a Ford or else a short Jeep maindrive (7-3/8" stick out length / 10" OAL) into this Jeep T18.
Both this adapterless Jeep version and the Ford case will allow for the shortest possible length.
Using a Jeep case allows for future use of the T18 PTO port.
Ford T18 PTO PTO port is on the wrong side of the case.

    4) Retain the Jeep T18 bellhousing bolt pattern and buy an AA bellhousing.
Will still need to shorten the maindrive gear.

Thanks for the info. Probably more than I want to tackle at this time.
