Hello all I finally had a lil time to try and fix a electrical problem I was having that was not allowing me to start up my 3a. I have a s10 steering column with the little electrical connectors on the shaft. I'm assuming because of some sort of electrical spike or maybe just a fault in the wires but they all burnt up I'm not sure what that piece is called and was to impatient to source another piece I just bought a universal keyed ignition and got it to start back up my question is there are no fuses or anything just ran the wires straight through. I'm no pro but to me I would think there should be something in between it what type of fuses and where should they be placed in the system

If it was mine, I would wire the jeep as normal to the original as possible. The wiring to and into the column is un-usable or very much in question. Not reliable. That pic is not a 289 so obviously not a 55. Was your 3A originally 6 volt? These old jeeps had very few to none for fuses. Your S10 column may have survived the turn/sig wiring as well as the horn wire so you may be able to use them. The early jeeps used a circuit breaker off the headlight switch for circuit protection with exception of heater and any added accessories.

Don't know if this helps, but the FR column uses a standard GM column harness connector.

The original s10 steering column uses a multi-pinned switch that the s10 wiring harness plugged into. GM protected the main power circuits to the switch with fuseable links. The links were located/connected at the starter solenoid positive battery terminal.

    Resolved for now

I just placed a in line fuse in between the main power wire and I'm just using the universal Ignition switch it's working fine my next project will be a complete aftermarket wiring harness with a fuse block
Any thought on the kits that are out there like the eBay units, the painless harness, or the EZ kits I like the looks of the painless kit very detailed but just looking to see if anyone has first hand knowledge

Hi Fiddy, I put the painless in my 66 and it was pretty easy, it is a great product. It is a bit pricy and has a few circuits you will not need, or will use for something else but every wire is labeled every 6 inches with the section and the circuit. If I were doing it again I might go with the cheaper ones, but I have no regrets at all.
