side air vents on an early cj5

    Hello,
    Saw a 56 Cj5 with side air vents. After all these years of loving Jeeps, I finally notice this! Was It a special order? Were they very common? Seems like a good Idea!

    They were a semi-popular owner modification in the hotter climes- I believe they were (still are?) a stock vent door from truck suppliers. One of the members here, John Worman, has them on his, someplace I've got a set I took off a postal jeep.

    The one I was looking at looks factory made. The door is flush with the body and it looks like the body was formed to except the door. Anyway there is a picture right here on eWillys under Cj5s. I guess It might catch on things but would sure work better than the vents on the windshield of the 3a of M38.

    Never seen factory ones, I'm nearly 100% sure they were not an option, never seen the literature.

    I have, however, seen owner installed vents that were done the "right way", by having someone skilled graft them in.

    Mail Jeeps, delivery trucks, FJs, they came on a lot of vehicles.

    I would recommend buying vents from a parts house for trucks.

    FJ parts are the rich mans game.
