Probe in my exhaust runner

    Hi everyone,

Working on rebuilding my brothers odd fire V6 and I noticed this probe like thing in all of the exhaust runners just down stream from the exhaust valves. There is just a bolt head on the outside of the head with nothing attached, so it looks like this probe serves no function. I'm just wondering what it is and why it's there. Anyone have any ideas?

Air injection for emissions, I'd guess. Never had a V6 though.

Air Injection system. The bolt is there because the rest of the system has been removed and the bolt acts as a plug to prevent an exhaust leak.

I just removed my air pump today. Based on another member's suggestion (I don't remember who, but thank you) I used set screws instead of bolts. Lots o' room to work now. The old metal air tubes were totally shot.
