7040S carb

    was this carb orig to the 75 cj5?
    can one still buy them?
    if not,
    what would be the best one to get?

    The Carter 7040 was the original carb for 232/258 in 1975, 49 state.

    what would be the simplest carb
    to upgrade too?

    A popular upgrade is the motorcraft 2100. I have it on mine. I purchased it off Ebay from some guy in Colorado that builds them.

    you list all the things on your jeep
    in your signature.
    could you explain what somethings are?
    what is HEI?
    and optima?
    did you need an adaptor for the T-18?

    should i OH it myself or send it out
    or replace it?

    We don't know how good you are at rebuild carbs, so how can anyone really answer this for you?

    If you done a carb before, go for it. If not and you are willing to try and possibly fail, go for it.

    If you just want to bolt on something that will likely work out of the box, I'd go for a replacement.
