Stumped CJ5 at master cyl and lines

Hi, I have a 57 CJ5 that I have been working on for many years and finally putting back together. Here is today's problem. I have forgotten how the connections are at the master cylinder, don't think I have the right parts and cannot find any good pics. I have a 4 way connector on the front left frame for the brake lines. One hole each for the right/left front brake lines, one hole for the rear brake line and one on the top of the 4 way that goes back to the master cylinder. Finally my question, what screws into the front of the master cylinder so that I can connect my line and the brake light switch? I am thinking copper washers, y fitting bolt, y fitting etc. I thought for sure when I took this apart (4 years ago) that my brake light switch stuck out straight the front of the master cyl., but I don't see how to make that work with the parts I can see online.
Thanks for any help. A pic would be great. Post it here or email me at tylerprk@twc.com

Those links show great detail, but I am still stumped. What connects to the y fitting and bolt? I assume the brake light switch screws into the front of the bolt. As for the Y fitting, I have one line that comes back to master cyl from that 4 way distribution block to connect to the master cyl. What connects to the other side of the y fitting? By the way, great googleing. I could not find a pic even close:)

Not sure. Mine is only a single line fitting between the pressure switch for the brake light and the body of the brake Master Cylinder.

If he has a 4-way in front, it might be for a second stop light switch.

"If he has a 4-way in front, it might be for a second stop light switch."

Agreed. But not stock in '57, was it?

Rather than try to find out which connects to which, let's look at what the end result has to be....

one leg of the "Y" goes forward, and one aft. The front opening on the banjo fitting (the "Y" block assembly) is for the brake switch.

the aft heading line goes to the rear differential and there is a fitting that splits the line into right and left.

the forward heading line goes to a block on the frame and splits to right and left. If there is a fourth port on that fitting it is likely for a second brake switch. The second switch really isn't needed since you already have one.

You can get plugs to stop up any extra ports that you don't need, or you can get the stock fittings.

Hi and thanks for all the replies. I finally called Walcks for what ended up being the final answer and fix. Walcks had a donor Jeep with the correct fitting. It is not manufactured or redily available.

For future info. This setup is stock on some early CJ5 models ( but apparently not many). The 4 way fitting on the front left frame is where the hydraulic pressure and fluid is split to the front and rear wheels. There is a single line that goes back to the master cylinder, which attaches to a single port banjo fitting. This is similar to the "Y" fitting, but with just one port instead of two. The standard bolt and brake light switch fit as usual.

In my opinion, if you find yourself in the same situation, it would be much easier to use the readily available "Y" fitting setup. The end results are the same for your braking needs.

Better yet, ditch the single reservoir MC and get a dual MC so if you have a wheel cylinder give up on you, you might be able to stop before you hit something. ;)
