When I turn hard right, the steering wheel seems to catch, almost so much it feels like it breaks to get it back straight. What order should I begin trouble shooting? thanks for suggestions.

I had a bolt on my tie rod that would catch on only one of my front shocks. Also, check the adjustment screw on the steering box, and make sure it's locked down.

Jack up the front axle, support it at both sides. Get some one to crank the steering wheel, feel for the catch-point, while you look at all the tie rods and so on. The suggestions above are both good.

Is the 'catch" always there or sporadic?
The Ross box is always a suspect
I've had a problem with tie rods bolts as well.
Check out your steering stabilizer too if you have one.
The only other things I can think of right now are the upper steering shaft bearing or king pin bearings in the steering knuckles.

Many of these old rigs have had the steering modified by a previous owner. Sometimes the work was done well and sometimes not. So, the first question would be: is your system completely stock?
