Brake light switch questions

I am nearing the point of getting my 1960 CJ on the road and have a couple questions regarding the brake light switch. I have tested the switch with a continuity test using my DVOM and confirmed it is good. There are just no wires hooked to it. I currently have turn signal and running lights.

    1. What original color wires connect to the switch?

    2. What connectors can I use to connect to the switch?

    3. What 12v power source does it tap into?

    4. Which wire from the turn signal switch should the brake switch be connected too?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. Brown from the turn sig switch and likely grey from the circuit breaker at rear of headlight switch to the other terminal on the brake switch.

    2. Try a standard blue butt splice connector and see if it holds to the switch banana pin (if that is the type of switch you have).

Thank you! I was able to temorarily hook up the brake switch and had everything working. I have the slide on style terminals. Is there any place to purchase just the connector? I have searched all over but cannot find anything.

Don't know what you mean "slide on" as the stop switches I have seen have two flat spade lugs or two round banana pins or two screws. If you have the flat spade lugs then use standard wiring male spade connectors. If you have the two round pins then try the blue or orange, maybe pink butt connectors. I don't know where you would find the appropriate factory connector.

does it matter which terminal has the hot lead and which goes to turn signal switch? On a switch like the one above

I forgot about that connector type. Like nickmil sez, it is just a switch. Doesn't mater which wire goes where. If you cannot find the correct connector then the female spade connector can be used. You may have to open the crimped sides of the connector to slide it on the terminal.

Another option is to solder short leads to each post, and terminate each with a bullet connector. But you need to be good with soldering so you don't melt the switch. This is the route I would take - tighten up my soldering gun, new wire, clean the posts, a little paste flux, electronics solder, get in, get out, and done.

These switches are also available with screw terminals to take a 'ring' connecter. Not expensive.

A twin lead delco alternator plug will fit that perfectly if you cut a groove above each conductor w/ a Dremel, etc. Thats essentially what the stock connector is, IIRC. The flat part of each connector in that plug makes contact w/ the flat, top part of each terminal, but you have to groove the plastic so it can slip over the terminals about 1/4" or so.

    *** EDIT ***

THis is exactly what you need - no modifications required!

Google fu must work better for you.
I spent over an hour looking for that part online without any happiness.
    Nicely done.

A connector from a Harrison R-5 a/c compressor works well also. Readily available in salvage yards. Just need to remove the resistor between the connectors.
