Hi I just tried to rebuild my Rochester 2g on my 68 cj5 and when I got to the power valve and main body it had a hairline crack where I'm not taking any chances. I'm pretty sure I want to stay with a 2 barrel just looking for suggestions for both manifold and carb. I'm not looking to rock crawl. If anyone has suggestions, or good websites to shop, all help is appreciated.

In my opinion, as far as OEM type carbs go, properly rebuilt/tuned 2Gs are gonna be some of the best.

What is your intended use? That'll make some difference. The Rochester 2g is a pretty good carb -if you're staying 2 barrel, I'd just find another one & use that.

I bought a 2g from these guys with the electric choke and have been happy with it. The first one they sent me didn't work quite right, but they sent me a new one without any hassles. Also, they sell on ebay with different prices and will honor the lower one.

Another possibility is a Motorcraft 2100 or 2150 carburetor. You'd need an adapter to go on your factory intake manifold. These are well regarded as superior off-road carburetors.

I mention this because this guy http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-MotorCr...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr is selling new 2150s set up for the AMC 232/258. He has a great reputation, and you have very few opportunities these days to buy new carburetors. If you write to him and describe what you want, he could set one up for you to work on the 225. I expect it would be almost identical to how it was configured for an AMC 232.

I don't think you have many options with regard to manifold. There are aftermarket 4V manifolds, which you could put a 4V carb on. The Motorcraft 2V would work pretty well on an aftermarket 4V manifold, but again you'd need an adapter. You can get a 300 CFM 2V Holley (not recommended - I'd definitely go with the Motorcraft first) or a 390 CFM 4V 4150 carburetor http://www.holley.com/0-8007.asp I think you really have to like carburetors to go with this one ... It would work well on the street and level trails, but the Holleys are not very good off-road carburetors.

There's also fuel injection ... several owners here have installed either a kit or junkyard fuel injection on their 225. Certainly the superior choice if you can get beyond the initial complexity.

    I'm running a Holley TA 470 4 barrel on my :v6:
It works good off-road, and has excellent power, but has driveability issues I've never completely solved.
I also had to do a lot of tuning to get it to work at my 6000ft elevation.

?? Which carb are you referring to?
The standard Holley 2 bbls come in either 350CFM (0-7448 ) or 500CFM (0-4412), and use center pivot float bowls, which are great for racing but terrible off road.

    +1

There is a Holley 300 cfm marine carb that has the side-pivot float. That's what I was referring to. http://www.holley.com/0-80320-1.asp

It might be better off-road than the center-pivot 2Vs, with a higher bowl vent and side pivot float, and possibly other marine anti-bounce provisions (spring loaded needle?).

I had a 500 cfm 2V (0-4412) on my '73 304 CJ-5 for a while, and it was terrible on hills and bounces. Noticeably more power (and thirstyness) than the original 2100 though.

Well, the conventional wisdom says that you have to make a lot of modifications to a 2300 to make it work well on the trail. There were articles about the 2300 and 4150 type carburetors in the off-road magazines. As I recall they told you to raise the bowl vent, use side pivot floats, use a spring-loaded needle, add a vent whistle or vent baffle, lower the float level, and likely more that I can't remember.

The Motorcraft 2100 and 2150 is a lot easier than all these modifications to a 2300. They pretty much work fine with no modifications. WOT performance is lower though.
