72 CJ5 parking brake lever, hooked to vacuum

As i was laying under the dash of my Dad's 72 CJ5 I noticed that there were two brake releases on the dash. One is hooked to the parking brake, the other has a "switch" hooked to the back side with one vacuum line hooked to it and goes up and looks like it connects to the cowl vent. Any ideas what this was used for or how the system works?

That's a mystery. I don't know of any vacuum lines under the dash on a '72. Pic?

Maybe the windshield washer? There was a manual system where you push the switch to pump the squirter. It had a hose that goes to the cowl area.

Here is the lever just to the left of the ignition switch.

    I'm still guessing windshield squirter.

That would make sense since there is not a windshield squirt bottle anywhere on the Jeep. Next I will have to check for the nozzles, and plumb up a reservoir. Thanks.

I figured that was the issue. I think of it as a good anti-theft device.....

Thats what that thing is, i bought a 72 in pieces and was wondering for the last year.
Good thing i did'nt throw it out with the trash, now the big question? Where do you find the plastic pump part.
    Thanks

Ok, here is a related question.. where should the squirter bottle be located, and what does it look like?

I believe it was a bag, located on the inner fender, under the hood.

Tim is right my 72 has a bag mounted to the left fender well, I took my pump apart a few years ago and got it working but the plastic housing was broken so I had to repair it, if anyone knows where you can find those manual pumps I would like to know.

Unless you're going for a full restoration, I'd do something cool. I my style, a plastic 750ml Jack Daniels bottle would be cool.

My 75 has the squirter on the cowl, I can poke around and get you some pics of how mine is setup.

Unless I really wanted to restore this Jeep, I'd get the rigid plastic washer reservoir from a '73-on and go electric. The pump in the bottom of these reservoirs is a commodity part, available from Rock Auto or your local parts store. Get the later switch and put a plain black knob on it (like the other '72 and earlier knobs) and no one will know - it'll be our little secret.

I already have a spare for my 82, I may just adapt that to fit and wire it up with a push button in the hand pump hole.

I've got a mid 90's ZJ bottle I got for my XJ because it under the hood instead of in the fender.

I had given thought to mounting it in my CJ and use the rear squirter to shoot at tail gathers.

I can post pics of the bottle later.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Most flaps have a generic reservoir and pump kit. I installed one in the Daughter's '70 with a push button that looks like a stock knob style switch and wired it with a relay. Works great and on the dash looks like it could have been stock.
