    Hello!
I recently purchased a 1970 cj5. when I bought it, I just thought it was basic project jeep. It was running fine and used as a shop car and a plow car since 2008. My original plan was going to fool around with it and get it to pass inspection. When I started looking into it, I kept finding posts in this forum and references to the old earlycj5.COM website. Thanks to everyone that has posted about thier jeeps. It has helped me a ton!

The first thing that struck me about the jeep was the paint. I thought some punk teenager took some neon green spray paint to the thing back in the 80s - but then I noticed that the paint looked original. You could see it coming through where the oem stickers had cracked and peeled away.
I thought nothing of it at the time and took some pictures of what I was getting into. I then left the jeep with an auto body restoration place and went home.

Searching the internet for info on the original paint colors led me to a ren1 description and this forum. I got excited and started look for the other identifying renegade 1 marks in the pictures I took. The jeep is an hour and a half away from me so I have to deal with the pictures I took till I get a chance to go back to where it is.

You can still see the pin stripe under the paint in some pictures
holes where the tire carrier was
posi rear end was verified by putting up on jack and spinning wheels
    oil pan skid plate
    original amp and oil gauge
    original looking roll bar
    mint green (sub lime) paint

The jeep seems mechanically solid. The frame seems a bit on the thin side, but no visible cracks or warping. The dauntless was swapped out for a Buick v6 from an 86 regal.
I am having the shop repair the body and do most of the difficult restoration and modification.

    Plans:
remove rust from frame and coat with rust sealer enamel like stuff (I forget name, similar to por15 but it will stay black, not grey)
Diamond plate corners and rockers (painted black)
    replace floor pans
cut and replace rust all through body.
    shocks
    31" tires
paint body "Sub Lime" Green and try to match color scheme of original including stickers.
    lights and mirrors
Wheel well notch so I can move the seat back.

I will do my best to document it with more pictures.

I am pretty sure from the pictures that it is an orginal ren 1, If you agree or think otherwise, please let me know.

I live right around the corner from you on the South Shore- I have a Renegade II and a few others. Who is doing the restoration work for you? This is a great site with tons of very knowledgeable members. Also have a few 1970 parts that might help your restoration.

New England auto and marine in blackstone just north west of Woonsocket RI is doing the work. Guy named Ed there seemed like a good guy. I bought the jeep there and saw some of the resto work they were doing so I asked him to fix it up and give it paint and get it to pass inspection.
