20 years ago my father upgraded his '60 cj5 to 11" brakes all around. He doesn't remember what he got them off. He thinks they came from a postal jeep. Well I want to replace the wheel cylinders and the shoes, but I don't know what vechicle they came off. I can bring down the wheel cylinders and shoes and match them up with whatever the autoparts place has in stock. But I'd like to know what they came from. What year range postal jeeps had the 11" brakes all around? What year range cj's had the 11" brakes all around? Is there any difference between the postal and cj 11 incher's? I know this is a super common upgrade, so I'm sure there are plenty of buff's on the subject out there.

CJs from '72 thru 75 had 11" drums at all corners. I believe postals are the same, but I'm not certain of that. There are a couple postal Jeep websites/forums that may be able to answer that.

The application shouldn't be really critical, as long as you get the same cylinder bore size and the same approximate overall length.

Best bet would be to take one down to your FLAPS and try to match one up, or use their interchange data to help narrow things down.

    HTH. ;)

Try a 5 lug Wagoneer, that's where I got my 11" brakes from I think they are pre `71 models, before I went with the newer D44's. One this same note, would the later 5 lug Wagoneer brakes with the 1 piece rear axle brakes work on an old 44? My friend found Wagonner with these axles and asked me if I knew. He wants them because of the e-brake feature.
