Trying to convert my 68 dana 27 to disc from 11" drums ,my problem is the new rotors, I bought which fit a scout measure 3.74 in the center hole ,while the rear of my hub measures 4.5 on the flange where the rotor should fit ! Do I need to get a machine shop to turn the back of the hubs down ? Or am I missing something simple.... a 78 jeep rotor has the same center dia as the scout .
    Help !:(

Huh, its been awhile since I had done conversion, but i used scout rotors off a dana 44 and they install them behind the cj- dana27 hub with no problem.... i think in perfect world you should flat mill the old hubs or......something f%^^k it!! Its run fine for years now??? Wow I'm a hack?? I then used new lug bolts for scout on the early cj5 hub. Is it possible your parts guy gave wrong part??? Ps you'll need 10 lb check valve for front brake if you've removed it from MC! LOTs articles here thats where i got all my info!!! Forum rocks!!

If you have drum brake hubs where the drums fit on the outside of the hub (Bendix style brakes) the back of the hub will need to be machined to fit the rotor. If you have drum brake hubs where the drum fits on the back of the hub (Lockheed cam adjust brakes) typically they do not need machined.
Don't forget you will need to space the hub out so the caliper/pads will line up with the rotor. Do a search for disc brake conversion on here. This has been covered a lot with postings of part #'s of the inner race and seal you will need to use to accomplish this.
Also, a 2 lb residual pressure valve is needed for disc brakes. The 10 lb valve is for drum brakes.

Yes , I checked the part numbers ,and for once they were right ,lol. The drums were on the outside of the hub,but there is a small machined surface on the inside where the studs go in . Do all conversions need the new race and seal ?
Thanks for the help ,looks like it is off to the machine shop I go !

The hubs that used Bendix style brakes need to be spaced outward. The ones that used Lockheed style should not

I had to machine my hubs on my 71'. I put mine all together and was off less than 1/8" getting everything lined up. When I went to the deeper race and new seal everything lined up perfectly. I have all the P/N's floating around here somewhere.

Wow first time luck for me!! The whole brake assemble off the scout worked perfect on my cj, no mill no spacers no drag on pads!!! I used a master cylinder off maybe a 72 jeep cause was cheaper at the time then my 1968 cjs, a little fab was need with push rod no biggy. I removed stock check valve in mc and used a "2lb" in the front.... and the rear well thats a future project!! LOL The Residual valve can be bought at any speed shop!!! Oh ya you have to change the front kunckle grease bung to the recessed type for caliper clearance !!! Good luck

I haven't been for a drive yet still have exhaust manifold gaskets to replace .
