I havent really tried it myself as of yet, just gathering ideas. I have to remove my 225 mounts fron the frame and install new motor brackets on my frame rails to accomidate a small block chevy. My question is what mounting system has everybody else that has done this modification used. I saw the ones from P.A.W. but they look really flimsy, almost like a hockey puck with a bolt thru it. I am considering using a universal mount that I have, or making my own mounts. Open for suggestions. Pics if you have them please

Novak and Advance Adapters make basically identical ones. I have the Adavance Adapters ones. Pretty beefy. They do use the rubber biscuits, but they are pretty hefty.

I just got the Trans Dapt Chevy engine mounts for my A1. I chose them over AA mainly because they look almost identical but they're less than half the price. Are these the ones you're talking about?

The PO of my `62 used a from plate that is suppose to mount on the 4 front holes in the block where the old `55-`60's Chevy's used. The plate is supposed to go with the crossmember out under the balancer, but, he turned it around and covered the fuel pump hole, so I had to use a electric fuel pump. But, this draws amps, This past October I got some racing mounts from Speedway Motors http://www.speedwaymotors.com phone# 402-323-3200, part# 916-18955 ($14.95 + shipping) and welded 2 - 2"x3" channel tubing (cut at an angle) with the 3" vertical to the frame and used a couple of polyurithane<?> pucks from a body kit to bolt it together with grade 8 bolts or better. This allows me to use the stock fuel pump and the front bolt holes for a power steering pump in the future.

I also used a radiator from these guys to, part# 917-347-22 it's 19" tall x 22" wide x 2" thick, (price $139.95), you have to cut the shroud flat off the grille and build a frame for it off the Jeep's frame not the grille. This radiator will let me run my 383ci at 170* up the freeway in 100* weather, with a 170* stat. For the winter I run a 195* for the heater, here in Denver.

I'm kinda cheap for expensive kits but, on a budget and have access to a race shop, so, I keep it simple and cheap.

Just remember after you install the engine prepare for the the rest of the drive train upgrades. A small block will break the stock stuff. The only stock item left is the D18 Tcase.

    Chris,

Do you have a Saginaw steering conversion? I know with mine I had to notch the engine mount a little for the shaft to clear. I do have the saginaw conversion. If you need detailed pics I can take some tomorrow for you. I am running the 4.3 which would be the exact same bolt in as a small block.

This is what my mount looks like, the 3 bolt holes go to the side of the block where the stock mounts bolt to. Then, like Scott's frame I have boxed the frame and welded the channel like his, but I don't have the diamond plate on the sides, NICE TOUCH!!! Then the grade 8 or better bolt goes through the single hole and the channel, with a poly puck in between. I'm sorry I don't have any pix hopefully Santa brings me a digital camera

As for the grade 8 or better, I was able to get a couple of aircraft grade bolts for them. But, they can be pricey. I have friends in low places :D

    Jim,

Thats a very nice mount. If I would have had that I wouldn't have needed to notch my mount on the motor. Did you make or buy that mount?

Remember a V-6 is shorter than a V-8. If you had the same mount it would be farther forward.

I can't use the 225 parts, but I can use most of the V-8 stuff. Buick and Chevy V-6's are totally different motor.

We use this mount in the NASCAR Sportman class car I'm the crew chief on. We run it with a Telfon puck in between the mount and the frame mount for a solid type mount. On the Jeep I used a poly puck for a little give and not so much enigne shake,

Grinsha's setup is the way we used to put the V8's in the Flatties (FWIW).

    Grinsha,
That's the same mount I had but, the PO flipped it around backwards so the bottom lip went under the oil pan and blocked the fuel pump hole. It was a pain in the !*$#!$%$% to change the leaking oil pan gasket. Thats why I went with the side mounts. Also, these block those bolt holes for a power steering pump mount.

There is no room for a mechanical pump on mine either.
I have a slightly different design front mount on my FC that clears the Fuel pump mount and the power steering mount holes. It is sandwiched between the water pump and the block. If it wasnt so crowded in there i would post a pic of it.

    Buce,

I'm not sure of the exact year. I think it's just a post 72 grille. If I recall I got it off of ebay and the seller was saying it was a 80 CJ7 grille. HTH.

I think all of the Pre 71 grilles had the sheet metal shrouding as I call it. I wanted the extra clearance up front, and that's why I went with the newer grille.
