I am sorry I would like to post this question on the original thread but unable to find it.

My buddy' got a jeep that had been sitting for a long time. (buick v6) it had water in only one cylinder. It does not turn by hand. We checked the oil there was no water in the oil, nor any oil in the coolant.
Is it possible that the gasket leaked from sitting so long?
We are going to tear it down tomorrow and re-ring the piston and clean out the rust etc.

Hmm, it's possible that that one cylinder had a loose spark plug and water got in. ?? I doubt that the head gasket would leak from just sitting. Maybe if it was leaking before or after, but not from sitting I wouldn't think.

If you're going to tear it down anyway, you'll cover all the bases anyhow. :D Good luck...sounds like you have a fun project at hand Brendan!

I really doubt that it's a head gasket from just sitting. My '66 sat for nearly 12 years without even being turned over. We went out there, put in a new battery and it cranked right up. I ended up rebuilding it just to be safe but it ran fine after all those years of sitting.

Was the carbeurator covered. I have seen an engine take in rain water and it only goes to whatever cylinders that had an open valve. Kinda stretching here, but its my thoughts if you cant find anything wrong with the motor otherwise. Another thought. I am not fimilar with the weather down there. Does it get cold enough to freeze where you live. Maybe a freeze up caused a crack in the head, or block. Again just speculation
