has anybody done anything they have loved/hated in terms of protecting their frame?

I am seriously thinking about hot dip galvanizing my CJ6 frame once I am done with the repairs and modifications..

:)Hot Dip..........expensive . paint will normally not stick , can't weld on it once done...( you can but burn's the galvanizing off) Eastwood any others have several methods and products to do a pretty good job for frame protection............I am assuming your doing this on your 1949 CJ3? The rails normally are un boxed and easy to get to..................check out Eastwood's Products on line.

1973 CJ6 Frame... (I should update my sig one day)
not looking to paint it... all repair/structural work will be done prior to dipping...

taking material and time into consideration... hot dip is cheaper..

My preference ... media blast, epoxy primer, choice of top coat. Treat the cavities with something like cavity wax.

:)And you may be right...............but I have never seen a Jeep Frame that is used ( driven ) that will not crack over time............Hopefully you have a Galvanizing Company in mind with a tank big enough in a place that the EPA even allows it.

    EPA nowhere to be seen.....
there are prob 5 within a 3 hr drive...
and NY is right up there with Cali in terms of tree hugging attitude..

I’m torn.. I get the concern about fixing if and when there is a problem.. but it’s not a deal breaker in my mind..
I guess I’m going to just keep on plugging away getting it all prepped, welded, and mocked up and see where I am when it’s all done.

a couple gallons 90 wt a couple pounds canning wax heated till the wax melts applied with an undercoat or shutz gun whilst hot if it ever needs work(weld, grind, repair) a propane torch will melt it clean. see also waxoyl,a rather pricy commercial product which is basically the same thing with carbon black in it. the rears and transfer case yield almost enough used 90 wt for this project, just sayin

either you are.. or you been hanging out with too many land rover guys;)

trust me.. I didnt get the grand notion of a galvy frame all on my own...
I restored a Series III and been there with the waxoyl....

I do have some time to figure it all out.. I want to get the axles and drivetrain mounted before I even think about a measure like this...

On my 1970 cj I used penetrol straight out of the can, and just prayed it on . let it dry for a couple days and painted over it. Its been 3 years and not a spec of rust and I go into some pretty bad mud holes
