I have a NOS Crater carb for my 74 CJ5. The motor is a 258 straight six. Looking to replace carb with the NOS carb. The NOS carb has a climate adjustment black plastic dial on the carb. My existing carb seems to be a regular plain old Carter carb. Anyone know what this dial is used for? How it works? How will it affect my motor? Thanks all.

Are you talking about the choke coil housing?

Yes. From what I have read it seems to be an automatic choke. Looks like I will need to connect a tube from manifold to sensor so that warm air can be detected by coil sensor? Seems to be cool technology.

:)Hi Jarrett, Automatic it is not if it was there would be a solenoid and a 12v wire running to it.........more on the manual side.........Hot air from the exhaust goes up the pipe and cause's the heat sensitive coil inside to expand and fully open the choke when the engine is hot. Likewise when its cold it closes the choke blade...........the Outer housing can be adjusted to either change the starting position of the blade or add or subtract tension on the spring coil / choke blade............

Thanks for the info Tarry99. Great pic DREDnot! My existing carb does not seem to be original for my CJ. The pic above helps greatly, Do you have more pics of carb to share? Will setting the dial make much differences in performance or warming up? Any operating instructions out there?

You just set it to the timing mark specified in the rebuild or setup specs for your particular engine. Its not really supposed to be twiddled with.
It actually is an automatic choke, same as an electric choke. Just uses exhaust manifold heated air to activate the coil vs. electrical resistance heat to activate it.
