Hey all! Been awhile since I've written. Has anyone used or have "direct" knowledge of some one that has installed a Weber K553 carb ? I have a fresh rebuilt F134 punched 40 over, a Petroniux ignition, 5:38 gearing ,Warn OD, and 7:00/16 NDT. Run's great but lousey mpg, about 11 MPG! Member using "1968 Jeep" as a handle, I think I read you used one. Did it increase MPG? Better performance ? Any trouble with oil fill/ dip stick location? Thanks for any help! Irish

Your Jeeps drivetrain configuration should be getting much better than 11 MPG.
It should be up around 16 MPG if you limit speed to 60 MPH.
Best MPG will be 45 to 55 MPH.

I have not used one yet I don't believe that a Weber will provide increase of MPG over that of the Carter 938 SD.

At W.O.T. your Hurricane should be able to maintain about 60 MPG on fairly steep interstate grades. (not mountain grades)

Thanks oldtime . Knew I should be getting better MPG. I'll look into the carter 938 SD. May have the wrong jet's. I'll keep checking. Irish

last I checked I got 19 with my stock setup without O-D, that keeping 55 and below on 235x75r15 junk tires. I am a MPG freak. I just installed the pertronix so we will see how much if any of a decrease there is. Rebuilt carter yf 938 on my 1960 original motor never fully opened just new valves in the 80s for unleaded gas at 15k original miles.

Hello - long time since I threw the Weber on the old F-134......
Off the top of my head, here goes -
I had to get the carb base adapter lengthened, and the fuel inlet on the Weber is right where the oil dipstick tube is - even with the extra height I added, no way it would clear - so I "clearanced" the dipstic tube by bending it out of the way - resulting in the dipstick hitting the crank throw and getting sucked into the motor.......not recommended....
Drivability was way better, pulled harder too.... I guess I would either cut down the oil filler tube and dipstick, or move the fuel inlet on the carb to the other side and plug off the original one. I never really kept tabs on the fuel economy - after all, these Jeeps are as aerodynamic as a barn door.......
