I have a Odd fire 225 with a Offy 360 Dual Port intake. Looking for advice on what people are running, what works what doesn't. The Jeep does see off road use, nothing extreme but it will see off camber and steep hills.

    It's a 57 CJ5
    225/T18/20
    Disk brake 30 front open
    Flanged rear 44 locked
    Power steering
    31" tires

    Thanks
    Kev

In my humble opinion the CJ standard, the Rochester 2G is one of the finest carburetors ever manufactured.

I used tweaked Holley 390s for years, then had real good luck with the TA470 for several more before going FI. I would have liked an Edlebrock 500, just could never get one to run right at altitude. A Q-Jet (small one) is also a good option - small mains and only opens as needed.

Off camber is the tricky part. From my experience, FI is best, then TA470/Qjet, then the 390 setups. Can't really comment on the 500 as I didn't get that far with one.

I'm running a TA470 on my 225. It works very well off road, and has more power than the 2G it replaced.
However, it has some weird driveability issues that I've never been able to completely eliminate-off idle stumbling,
and hesitation at power valve tip-in. I used to tune carbs professionally, but I've never got this one where I want it. Part of the problem may be my elevation (I live about 6000 feet, and all my off roading is higher than that). At low elevation it'd probably be fine.

Word is that the Holley TA carbs have drivability issues like you describe on the street. Supposedly it's due to eliminating one of the air bleeds and replacing it with a plunger in the metering block.

Don't know much more than that. You may be able to find some more discussion on the net.

For a good off-road carb, there's always a 21xx Autolite/Motorcraft 2V. You'd need a 4V-2V plate adapter... Maybe the 4100 Autolite would be good, but those are really old, and you may have trouble finding one in good condition. There was a small 4100 made for the 289.

Not a lot of choice in new aftermarket carburetors any more ... EFI is just too good.

Thanks for the input. I have a Autolite/Motorcraft 2150 on it now, been running one for years on the 302's. I'm just looking to get the most out of the Dual Port intake since I have one.

Uh - not really a 'doner' setup for EFI on a 225 OF. Look at my thread in the builds, besides Mega Squirt, there are a couple other good options. Not cheap, but good.

Megasquirt is a great option if you are willing to learn EFI and do a lot of work yourself. I MS'd my VW bug and I love all the capability of it. 10.29 @ 131mph in the quarter so far. Capable, and works. But has a learning curve.

A "kit" that has a throttle body that will bolt to your intake is going to be the easiest, and todays kits are becoming more and more "plug and play", requiring less from you to have a good running engine. Someday I plan to MS my 62CJ and my 77 440 motorhome. Just for the fun of it more than anything as they both run just fine.

My Rochester 2G has been in some pretty off-camber situations, never a hickup. Quite impressed with it!

I did megasquirt on my 72 with a 258 in it. Pretty straight forward and it ran great. But like said above, it is a learning curve.

I ran a 500CFM Edelbrock on my Offenhauser. After a few jet/ rod changes, it ran very well. Much more power than the 2bbl. I ran it up to 10Kft.

I'm going to run a 670 TA. I know there are some people with issues but others don't seem to have them. If I don't like it, I'll try something else.
