Intermediate Fuel Tank with later skid question

Has anyone ever mounted an intermediate tank, using a later model CJ5 skid plate (tank strapped to plate, and the plate bolted to the frame)?

I just bought my CJ5, and the previous owner had removed the tank to start a restoration, also removed all the brackets... and lost them.

I'm trying to come up with a solution easier than hunting down brackets, or fabricating new ones. Thought maybe I could use a newer skid plate, and mount the tank to that.

Do you have the original skid plate? If I did not have the original skid plate, I would try to adapt the later skid plate. But I would still hang the original tank from the frame, rather than strapping it to the skid plate.

Making the brackets to mount the tank and skid plate would not be difficult. The brackets are super simple.

 

I did. I put a 76 up gas tank skid plate in my 73. It fits perfectly with a little trimming on the back and making brackets for the front mount. I'll be back home over the weekend and take some pics if it helps.
