I know it's short notice but I hope someone can help us before we commit to roll bar placement this afternoon. We will be bending and installing a roll bar today and I would like to put it where it should be for future top clearance. We need a rough measurement of an original bar from top of inner fender to top of bar and from top of windshield to top center of bar. That should get it close enough. Also an outside measurement might be helpful too. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help us out!

There was no original roll-bar for any CJ before the AMC years started, was there?

And what kind of top do you want on there?

I run a bikini top on mine. A hard top won't fit with the bars in place.

No bar that I know off.

I think most of us make our own, adapt one, have someone build one, or use the old smittybuilt ones...

i would run either a 1/4" plate or 12ga plate between the two tubes on the fenderwell to tie them together in case of a roll over so they can't split apart. at least that is how mine is and just seems safer. and it makes for a big footprint instead of two little ones. and make sure to round the corners instead of square corners. otherwise it looks great. it also looks like it might be a little high. with the windshield up it shouldn't stick too far above that. while your at it you should do a front hoop as well to keep the windshield from coming back. just a safety precaution

We double plated with 1/8" 6"x6" plates and we'll be connecting the lower plates to the frame with 1 1/4" dom tubing. The condition of the fenders dictated that the cage be tied to the frame to be effective at all. The main cage is 1 3/4" .125" wall DOM tubing. The main hoop is set about an inch and half above the center of the windshield. In the photo it looks a lot higher than that but it's just the angle of the shot and the fact that the glass is down. We have a bikini top on it now but it's just a TJ top that has been converted. We just wanted to plan for an actual soft top if we ever spring for one.

Where are you at? Possible that you only need the bikini top all year round. That is all I use here in Central Aridzona. I don't even have provisions for a heater in it.
