I have a 65' tux and a 65' cj5 universal, both with the f motor. The tux has the single shift transfer case while the universal has the dual shifter setup. My questions are #1, Are these the same transfer case? #2, Which one would be preferred? I do not plan on any heavy off roading or anything, just a weekend driver.

both the same transfer case. they just changed it to a single leaver to make it less complicated for the driver but its a more complicated mechanism. twin stick is preferred because it holds up better and if you do a little modification you can make it go into 2 wheel drive low range . I dont know why they are the same year and different sticks. perhaps someone changed the case or maby it was optional. maby someone else knows what years they came in

The Tux is single lever because it's a Tux.

My jeeps have both setups. I like the dual lever xfer case 'cause I shift from 2wd to 4wd a lot and it is easier and quicker with the dual lever. Now I use my jeeps around the farm and not on the road, so my preference might not be typical.

I have 2 good chassis and one good body, so I am trying to make 1 good out of 2 and eventually maybe sell the rest. What t case would this be?

If stock both would be 18 transfer cases. Both should. E the same with the exception of the shift linkage. Part of that difference is the lever(s), shift rails, and front housing.
I also prefer the dual stick shifter as it gives more control over the transfer case and has fewer parts to wear out. Those parts that do typically wear out are readily available.
