Mine just has a pair of 2.5" Walker's turbos, think the 14" ones. Not too loud.

I hate the Headman headers!!!! but thats not what you asked .
Right now I'm running a set of disscontinued Hooker super comps (LOVE THEM )with 12" Magnaflow stainless steel bodys. the inlet and outlet are on the same side to keep them tight to the frame ,(less damage )they have taken a beating but have yet to tear or puncture . I would recomend them.I think they ware about $60 a piece. my exhaust is run all the way back and has many bends but at idle/creeping it's great , but still slightly loud at speed . When I switch everything to my 6 ,I will definately use the same mufflers but order longer ones.

Thank you for the turbo muffler suggestion. I'm going to be needing new mufflers, and this was what the exhaust shop suggested. I want to keep it really quiet, I'll keep looking...

Thanks everyone, will bite the bullet and extend out the back. Had a Chevy V8 powered CJ3B in the 70s but was a lot younger and don't remember it being loud. It dumped out on the sides in front of the rear tires just like my current Jeep. Oh how the memory of stuff changes! Only remember the good.

I like straight pipes routed out under the rear bumper. And I ain't no spring chicken. Plus I enjoy setting off all the car alarms in the parking lot at the local grocery store!

Best place to have them exit is at a 45 degree angle at the rear corner of the tub. This quiets down the exhaust but still sounds good with the right muffler. More importantly this minimizes exhaust fumes rolling back in the cab.

Hey, I had one like that also in the 70's

    and still have itR)

It has Hooker Super Comp headers (9810's) and a pair of 2.5" Borla stainless "muflers" welded directly to the reducers (both trimed as short as possible for welding) with the turn-outs in front of the wheels. Just a low grumble on the trail, but it is rather loud if you put your foot into it-which, after wheeling it 40 years now, I have yet to do on the trail.

I just put a second set of super traps on the blue '49. They are tuneable so that helps alot.

I have Magnaflows out the back. Tried turnouts right after, but still too loud. The extensions to the back made the difference.

I ran thrush turbos behind hedman headers on the 71, side exit 2" pipe. Good tractor-sound at idle, not bad driving around... but pretty loud droning driving at 65+ mph. I started wearing foam earplugs if I was going to drive more than an hour on the highway.
AFAIK, Don is still running the same mufflers, probably been on the rig 10 years now.

So no one has tried the hush power? Just wondering how quiet they are. I'm Considering them for mine if I need to replace the exhaust system.
