Lug studs spinning

    These are the original hubs that I had machined for rotors. The flange holes are worn out. Two are completely gone, the others are loose. Is there a fix?

    I don't think a flange can be repaired if the lug stud knurls are stripped.

    I am thinking I read in one of Moses Ludels books you can use grade 8 bolts, but I can't remember where I read it. I'll let you know if I find it.

    nevermind, he was talking about using a rotor that had threaded holes.

    Anybody have a part number for an oversize knurl? Say around .650".

    DO NOT WELD THEM! The heat will crystallize the hardened metal and the stud(s) will break off. At most you MIGHT get away with a tack weld.

    X2. Fix it right. Losing a tire/wheel going down the road is not a good thing.
    If welding were acceptable the factory would do it as its much cheaper......

    Yeah, general opinion with some horror stories on the net. Looking for a fatter knurl now.

    I think I would replace the hub. They aren't that expensive, and the new ones are already flat on the backside so no machine work is needed.

    Hubs, bearings, seals at >$150 a side, not what I'd call inexpensive. I've found some studs with a .650" knurl that's long enough to reach the flange. The outer portion is not knurled though. I'll have a local machine shop knurl it for me.

    just put a spot weld. And the spot weld is ONLY to hold it to remove the lug nut.

    If your bearings and races are in good shape you can reuse them in a new or good used hub. I would recommend a new seal.
