I was told that when i bought my 70 i was told that it has a Buick 231 in it not the Dauntless 225. Now i know that i need a new distributor cap i just don't know where to find one. Can anyone on here give me specific examples of where to get one? Also it is a HEI not the points system, Does this matter?
    Thank You

You need to know if it is an oddfire 231 or an evenfire 231. The caps are different. The HEI caps are completely different from a points distributor cap.

Any parts store should have it but you need to know whether it's an odd-fire or an even-fire 231 first. You'll need to remove the cap and look at the pickup coil. If the points on the coil are evenly spaced it's an even fire, if not it's an odd fire. Also, the towers on the distributor cap, are they evenly spaced or?? I don't always go by the cap because there were some caps made back in the day that were supposed to work on odd and even fire. best to check the pickup coil to confirm.

Show us a picture of the inside/outside of your cap and we can tell if odd or even.

Could just take the cap in to the parts store counter and check it against the new one.

I have discovered that i have an odd fire engine, does anyone know where i can get a HEI cap for it, also does it not matter for the cap whether or not it is a HEI or points system.
    Thank you for any help
