    Hey all,

Wanted to ask a few question about my 67. First off, I am new to Early CJ-5 forums, I have been reading threads and have learned alot that have helped me with my jeep. This is my first jeep that I have ever owned. I have spent countless hours searching the site and to no aval I'm still stuck and could use some expert advice and knowledge. I have done a lot of searchs so I hope that you guys will be willing to help me out.
I'm not sure how to attach pics, it will only let me do a URL. But here they are!

    Hope it works!

Here is a little info about Ol' Rusty.

    vin: 8305 A 218161
    1967 CJ-5

I have looked up the vin and it shows that the jeep came with a Dauntless V6.
My first question is do I have a Dauntless V6 or is it a swap in even fire. I have read other posts and some things just don't seem right. Like the drivers side valve cover looks odd. The intake has a # of B-1376398-E. I looked all over the passenger side of the engine block and could not find any numbers. I hope that is the right spot to look!

Second question is about my transfer case. I have read alot about different types and overdrive/PTO. The pics show multiple plates that have been covered up and cut out. what do you think happened with all thats going on with the floor board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm just trying to figure out what I got so I know what I'm working with!

    Thanks for the time,
    Tim

You could post more pictures of your drive train for help identifying it. One of the valve covers looks different (dr side). the ignition coil is sitting on the motor (should be mounted) and water pump looks different (could be new). Throttle and intake manifold look right. and the distributor looks odd fire. Id say it is a dauntless, but im new too.

pto port should be covered if no overdrive (on your t case)

Look for number on the top of the block behind the intake in the little dip above the top of the bell housing where it mates to the block.

I'll try to take some more pics of the drivetrain and post them and clean that area to see if I can find any numbers.
    Thanks for the help!
The water pump is new. I have been having problems with it overheating and decided to replace it. I also have the radiator getting redone with a 3 row core instead of the orginal 2 row core. I had read that helps with the original radiator.
I plan on restoring this Jeep but for right now just want to get it on the road and see what I got. Ive worked the brakes over and got all the lights working. I don't plan on getting to wild with restoring it till I have a little fun first.

Your Jeep has been converted from a single t/case shifter to a dual. This is a fairly common swap, because the stock shifter is hard to reach. The small hole in front of your t/case shifters is where the original shifter was. Someone did a poor job of hacking up the floor around the dual shifters.

Okay, you learn something new everyday. All V6 jeeps had a single shifter on the D18 Transfer case. So that answers why all the crappy cuts. What about the hole just to the right of the dual shifters in place now? What would that be for? And dont forget the plate just behind the trany shifter! I guess thats why we call them projects, cause you never know what you got?
    Thanks
Can't wait to get more info on the motor!

My '70 has both of those, too. The one to the right of the shifters is an access hole for the shifter pivot bar. The one behind the trans is (I think) an access for using a PTO on the transfer case.

Okay, Did some research and found out that the motor was built within the year range of my CJ5. That makes me think that it could be the original motor. Since I got it back running after having the radiator redone I finally got a chance to drive some this morning. I drove it around for almost three hours and had a blast. Just wanted to thank all you guys for the information about early CJ5's.

I had just one question, hope this is the right area to ask! I was wondering if there is a place that sells the original single lever for the transfer case for the Dauntless models. Or, if anybody had the parts that they would be willing to sell or trade for the two lever. I know most people like the two lever better but for some odd reason I like the single lever.

    Thanks for the Help!
    Tim

Place a WTB (want to buy) ad in the classified section. I'm sure someone will hook you up for a reasonable price.
