Thanks to everyone who posted advise and info to help me solve my Carb Issue on the thread I posted last week. I have checked the float measurements and they are right (1 5/32 and 1 7/8) It still puts out a bunch of gas at idle and because of that, I guess, it won't idle. Here is a better description of what is going on with the whole thing... It has a manual choke. If I pull the choke knob (close the butterfly on the carb) it will idle and pur like a kitten, all be it a very high idle though. I don't have a Tach (I'm getting one tomorrow) to know the RPM's but they are high. I can push the choke in about half way and it will idle down a little but if I push the choke all the way in (open butterfly) it will stall no matter how warm the engine is and if I give it gas it seems to load up and sometimes I can keep it running but most of the time I can't. Some questions I have are...Could it be sucking air from somewhere? It has a tee on the back bottom (baseplate) of the carb..one side is plugged, one side has about a 3/8 hole where the PCV valve hose hooks up and straight out the back is some sort of short hose with a valve or something in it. I have no idea what it is. When I rebuilt the Carb, I just cleaned it and stuck it back on. Do I even need a PCV valve?? Can I do away with this tee??? Also, there are 2 vacuum ports on the back of the intake..one on each side. I have them plug right now... Where do they go?? I think one goes to heater..maybe? This is probably clear as mud but again, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

On the rear of the intake manifold the small vacuum port is for the heater controls and the bigger one is for the vacuum wipers. The PCV is necessary in the system but the hose can go directly into the back of the carb base without a "T". If you are running power brakes with the booster then you would need the "T".

k... I took my old pcv valve to the auto parts store and just kinda matched it up with one there. Is there a difference in them do you know? And any idea about the choke deal?

I have not replaced my PCV valve in years. I got a standard GM valve that fit the hole (grommet) and vacuum hose and got the steel one which I soak in carb cleaner when it gets carboned up. It only has a steel ball inside so nothing to really go bad. It may have a number on it so will take a look-see first chance. If your engine runs better with the choke pulled then that tells me you are having to richen the amount of fuel to air ratio which sez too much air (vacuum leak).

When you cleaned the carb. Did you remove the air mixture screws? If these are screwed in to far it won't idle.

My 2g has sometimes developed vacuum leaks around the pivot pins for the butterfly valves. Also, if you have a 71 or maybe even a 70 then you probably have the pollution control fitting coming out the back-at the same place where the hose from the pcv valve goes in to the carb base plate. I don't think the earlier dauntless v6's had this. If the pollution control thingy was removed and then replace with some sort of rigged up plug, make sure what ever device was put on there is still sealed tight.

It does sound like a vaccum leak messing up the idle mixture. Older carbs with manual transmissions will wear out the shaft bushing/throttle shaft due to repeated movement.

    8) is a smiley face. Turn off smileys in your post if you don't want it. Or leave a space between the 8 and the closing paren.

Refusing to idle could indeed be a worn carburetor body, but I more suspect you have a big vacuum leak somewhere. Unlikely the carb body is worn enough so that the car won't idle. Also possible that you put the carburetor back together wrong. If it dribbles gas into the bore at idle, you likely left out the check ball and weight, or something similar. I don't know the 2G well enough to be more specific.

The 2g has a check valve under the accelerator pump and also under the venturi cluster. If it was me I would just get a new carb kit and start over. Make sure all the parts are going in as per the instruction with the carb kit. The 2g is a very simple carb, and if it is already clean it can be rebuilt in less than an hour.

I remember replacing the check balls ...I think?.. Not a bad idea starting over with Carb. Thanks for all the advise guys.
