V6 clutch/brake pivot shaft fix

    Is there a way to fix the cross shaft that the brake and gas pedal pivot on? I cannot find a replacement one anywhere. they are all listed for 4 cylinder applications.

    What's wrong with yours? Kind of hard to answer you question without knowing that...also maybe you meant brake/clutch pedal pivot shaft?

    The pedals are sloppy on the shaft and the shaft (tube) is sloppy in the frame mount. On my flatty, I just replaced the tube, mount, and bushings in the bottom of the pedals. I cannot find a listing for a V6 early cj5. Its actually my dads jeep, but I am fixing it for him

    I would prefer to replace the tube and mount, if possible.

    There was a Jeep factory fix years back that had to do with running a bolt the lenght of the tube to help tighten things up. I did it a while a go using hardware store parts. I can't the info at the moment but I will take pics if the will help.

    Allthread, washers and locknuts. tighten till the slop is out, but not too tight to bind.

    I used a couple of copper pipe caps narrowed down for the right depth and a carriage bolt for the thru bolt. A self locnut to set preload.

    I ended up taking it all apart and had some work done at a machine shop to bring it back in to shape. Greasing it helps keep it working smoothly.

    I just went thru this with my 2A. Ibelieve the parts are the same. I tried the thru bolt trick and it helped , but when I went with a new cross shaft, cross shaft bracket, and brake pedal, the difference was amazing. I think these parts just wear out because no one ever greased them.

    How did you grease it? Did you disassemble it?

    We ended up comparing the cj5 set-up to my 51 3a's assembly and it looked close enough to work. We ordered it yesterday, I will report back with fitment!

    There are (supposed to be) grease zerks on it. If yours doesn't have them maybe they've been broken off? It helps to have someone pump the pedals while you pump the grease in.

    Both of my fittings were broken off, I replaced them during the rebuild. I did not know that on pumping the pedal while greasing, I will give it a try.
