Alright this may have already been covered but I haven't found it yet. I am going to look at a 69' Wagoneer with an excellent running Dauntless 350, auto, and Np208. What I am needing to know is has anyone swapped one of these motors into an early CJ. And no I am not worried about the auto being to long this would be going in my new CJ6 so I have plenty of wheelbase. If anybody has any pics or info on this swap it would be greatly appreciated. I mainly just need to know if it will physically fit without to much engine bay modification. I am not worried about mounts or any of that I can fab those.

    I did a Buick 350 ,T350 trans, 20 transfer. into my 70 CJ6
The 69 Wagon would have come with a t400 and a 20 transfer.
You would need to use a later grill, and front mount steering. The floor pan might need some work with the T400 trans.
The np208 might be to wide for a CJ frame.
    I do have some pictures.

I just finished a 300 swap, pretty much the same motor mounts, bell housing, and dimensions. On my '70 I ended up building a new front crossmember to accommodate the late-CJ grille and radiator. I did an Astro van steering box mounted similar to Herm's Ford kit. Fits like it was a factory option:

The engine is an easy swap for a 225 V6. As Andrew mentions, the front half is longer than the 225, so you'll have to move the radiator forward somehow. This is a great swap for a Jeepster with the TH400, BTW.

I too am doubtful that this is a NP208. The NP208 was used in Wagoneers, but not until 1980 and later and only with AMC motors. The Jeep NP208s have a driver's drop and were used with the AMC-cased TF727, so you'd have to change a lot to make the Jeep parts mate with a Buick.

Good that means this is actually a good option. The Jeep currently has a 302,c6 and an Np208 in it. The Np208 is just to wide for this frame, the guy told me it had a Np208 in it but I didn't think that sounded right so if it is a D20 I am going back with some Jeep Power sort of. I am not to worried about modifying the floor, I have built a sub frame and am just running the outside sheet metal of the tub. Thanks guys, I would love to see some pics if you have them handy. I will post up some pics of my buggyish Cj6 once I get it all done.

I'm confused. Your first post said Dauntless 350, auto, and 208 now it's a Ford engine, C-6, and 208?

I think he wants to ditch a 289/C6/208 and put in a 350/TH400/D20.

Ahh, ok. I thought he meant the Wagoneer had the Ford engine.

If its a ford engine tranny, betting the transfer case is a Ford sourced Dana 20. That is a nice driveline, not sure I'd swap it out if its functional

The Jeep currently has a 302, C6 and np208 mocked up in it. The 208 is to wide for the Jeep frame, I was going to get a Bronco D20 then I found this whole Jeep for less money. Once I get everything swapped I will post up some pics, I have to finish the tubework first so I can bring it home from my buddies shop.

Another thing to think of here are Ford transfer cases have the front output on drivers side where all CJ front axles are on passenger side.
