Two years ago I picked up my first 74 cj5 for $2500.00. I wanted to share with you my work in progress.
The jeep had a bad knock in the engine so I stripped it down and took the block to the machine shop for a rebuild. then I ordered a custom dash from double d fab followed by a back yard paint job. I installed an electronic eaton locker in the rear, new corbeau seats and harnesses front and rear, rubber floor mats for easy cleaning, roll cage purchased off of ebay, tire carrier and tube bumpers for the later year jeeps and finally good year mud terrain 33's all around.
I have taken it offroading twice now and its an ox. it will climb the hell out of a hill. future plans include a lift, bilstein shocks, a winch and need to address a crazy noise that comes and goes in the front axle. This is my daily driver.

    Nice build and nice JEEP!
I love the Calico trails! Great desert crawling, just wish it was closer (and my gearing was lower)! I had a question about your dash, did you have the original cut up to look like that, or was that an all new piece? I didn't really gather what it was.

Oh and, if you crawl and crunch a lot, you'll be saying that'll buff out in no time!

one day at work i doodled out what my dash should look like. I knew i wanted a stereo and cb on top of one another and a few guages and a bunch of pilot style switches.
So i sent the drawing to double d fab and he made it come to life. heres his web site https://sites.google.com/site/doubledfab/

The rockers came from poison spyder and only required creative mounting under the chassis. http://shop.poisonspyder.com/

i have some Qs for ya blubaron...

the switches on your dash are too cool... where did you get them?

what size compressor did you use to get that backyard paint job?

    was it hard to do?

ALL of my experience is rattle can or airbrush, and while i can lay down a killer paint job on a 1:24 car, i have never done anything as large as a 1:1

    any suggestions/tips/tricks?

GREAT looking ride, if i do say so... AGAIN

    THANKS!

Thanks for the great compliments texasblues....
the switches came from my local oreiley's auto parts store. cost about 12.00 each and are called pilot switches.
The air compressor is the biggest i could get for 110 volt and it still isn't enough air. So when i paint the compressor runs the entire time. however your trigger hand does get tired after about a half an hour so this gives the compressor time to rest while your resting and refiling your paint gun. my first, second, third, fourth fith, etc... paint job on a vehicle gets increasingly better and more professional looking, But I still get the occasional run and orange peal so clearly I have room to improve.
By the way your project is coming along nicely, Iam watching your posts closely.
    Tom
