Is this better or contain more information than the Haynes Repair Manual? Just trying to get an idea if it's more useful than what i already have. thanks!

There is no comparison with a Haynes.or anyone else's manual. The FSM (Factory Service Manual) is the only manual to use.

Chilton's and Haynes have some additional photos that sometimes help but the service manual is the best source for the factory info. I've had manual for almost as long as I have had the jeep, since 1978. Got it through mail order from an ad in the back of Peterson's off-road mag way back when.

My jeep came with the Rebuilders guide, as well as the FSM (each page cut out and placed in a plastic sleeve, all contained in a binder). The one thing the PO did that I haven't MF'd him over..

After you use a FSM, your Hyanes and Chilton's manuals will be relegated to wheel chock duty. I'm the biggest automotive hack there is, but even I was able to comprehend and work on almost everything on my 1960 F100. I found myself studying that manual in the bathroom, on the couch while watching tv and in bed before going to sleep. 600+ pages of invaluable technical info with excellent diagrams. I got mine through Faxon Literature. I'm embarassed to say I haven't ordered a CJ FSM yet, because my Jeep is such a mutt. I'll probably have to order 2 unless that book you show covers 69 Kaisers and 72 AMC's...I didn't see what years it covers in the links...maybe I missed it...

Good question, what years are covered in the book?

Originally published in 65, but it was continually updated through 71, what it refers to as late model. AMC continued to republished until 76 because of their requirement to support the legacy products, but they made a different book for the 72 & later, I don't know what it is titled.

That FSM began its life as the mb/gpw Military TM book. Every year a new jeep was made that same book was just added to and or revised. I've got a 1971 FSM dated book and my dad has an original WW2 TM book and they are the same format, table of contents, etc. On some stuff that didn't change the pictures are even the same.

If you have a v6, check the publishing date to make sure it's late, otherwise it won't have the v6 stuff, etc.

I will say that an original dealer parts book is as just as important as the FSM. The FSM is lacking in many needed illustrations and the parts book makes up for that. If you have done any research on here where guys have posted exploded diagrams of this or that, it's all out of the parts book. The FSM may tell you how it works, but in many cases it never mentions how it's assembled. I think the writers of the FSM assumed you were just repairing a factory setup of this or that. They never thought it would be put together wrong because Bubba got ahold of it

My 74 manual says "Technical Service Manual." It covers the cj5/6, Cherokee, wagoneer and j trucks.

If you deal with a 'conversion' you end up with books for the flatties and the 5's with the V6s (that's what I use).

I wouldn't go quite that far. I bought a Chilton's for some work I needed to do on my former Subaru and it provided enough info to get the job done. There was no way I was going to spend $150 for a FSM covering that POS. That said, I have never used anything but the 3 FSM's I have for the Jeeps and the Chevy FSM's for those pieces. When one gets a lot of non-Jeep pieces, it is good to put together your own "FSM" from the various sources.

i have one that only goes to 65 or so. its not old, just a reproduction. it is invaluable. the chitin was better than the haynes by far and a lot of the diagrams in the chiltin came from the manual i have. the shop where i bought all my parts from back in the day told me to get one, actually made me buy it to leave them alone. small price for so much great info
