    Guy,
looking for some input on how much $ i should be asking for in selling my Stainless Steel 1970 CJ5. I got it from my dad after he passed away 3 years ago i took it off of my brothers hands because he would never have the time or money to restore it, so i volunteered. After spending a lot of money and countless hours of my own labor working to re store it i have given up, if i would have know at the time it would take this much time and money i would not have volunteered. i put a new holley carb and a HEI distributor, new headers, and mufflers on the 225 v6. It needs some tweeking to get it running correctly. i also removed the t-14 and the dana 18 disasembled, inspected, and reassembled and reinstalled. I still have not driven it on the road. the main reason i am looking for some input an what i should ask for $ is because i know the stainless steel body was custom built from Jewels in the PI and is worth alot more than a stock steel body and i know who ever buys it they will never have to worry about rust and it will last for ever. it need shocks rims and tires and a few other things. i believe the right thing to do with this jeep is to strip the whole thing apart and start from scratch, replace every thing well you know what i mean. please feel free to look at the pics and give me you feed back,
    thanks Dave

i hope al of these pics show up .

what shape is the engine in? Can you post some pics from underneath the chassis & under the hood. It looks sharp. I wish I could buy it but I have too many other priorities right now.
I have no idea what the price inc is from the SS, but I would guess $6-10k depending on the engine. Just a WAG. I assume California pricing is higher, so maybe more.

I would not be able to let go of it if it was mine. The jeep I have used to be my dads too, he passed in 2009. He sold it to me in 1978. No way I'll ever let go of it. My son can sell it when I'm gone.

Wow, had to put my sunglasses on. Seriously, it would be impossible for me to sell. I'd want my son to have that option and hope he wouldn't. Not slammin ya, I understand life sometimes drives our decisions. Nice jeep still!

    being honest,
If it holds any sentimental value at all, take a break from working on it, or pace yourself and make the work enjoyable.
I ruined the engine in mine over thanksgiving week as i sank 2ft deep into a puddle of water after spending the previous summer swapping to the v6 after spending the previous winter saving up for the swap, after spending 3months failing to put a turbo on the 4cyl.

otherwise, with absolutely no dreams or memories
at least 6k, if everything is there but not drivable, ss body, overdrive, v6, Saginaw
at this point you would be best to get it drivable and ask 8k or enjoy the jeep yourself
the only things missing are disk brakes, posi, soft top, and a smooth running engine.

of course you can only get what someone else is willing to pay, can't always get what it is worth.
just have to find the person that wants a stainless jeep in need of work and has the $$$

Yup - something like that is worth what someone will pay and is not common enough to put a solid price on it. In this market, I don't think you could get a premium for it without national sale and willing to wait for someone with the 'right' money (in your mind).

I would contact a classic car auction business like you see on TV. It could be worth a little or a lot, but if you are going to seriously sell it, get a few "collector" appraisals. No offence to anyone, but online opinions on something like that need to be from someone who really knows what the value could be.

Beyond valuing it at what somone is willing to pay, you'd have to find several comparable examples recently sold to put a "real" value on it.

IMO it might be worth the going rate in your area for a comparable example, plus the difference between a repro tub and the SS version. But only if you find the right buyer who cares about having a SS jeep. Otherwise it't just another CJ5.

Two words "I Wish"! That is a sweet rig! I agree about taking a break from it. Not many people are fortunate enough to have something like that. Tarp it, and put it out of sight for a while. Either you'll get your interest back, or I will have enough money to buy it. Give me at least 5 years.

I agree completely with curtcanada, if you can at all hang on to it, just step back for awhile and when you find the time and motivation again, get back to working on it. I took almost 10 years off from my Jeep, and I'm so glad that I didn't just sell it. there are always other Jeeps but yours is pretty unique, although possibly not more valuable. Eventually you might find the motivation again to tinker with it or pass it down to future generations.

    Barrett-Jackson.
Put a reserve or bottom limit or what ever they call it.
Otherwise you will end up giving it away for peanuts.
A few years back I saw a completely restored, running Nascar racecar go for 18000 in LA. Clearly worth better than $100 K. At the same auction a '65 Chevy pickup that wasn't worth 5 grand went for 60k. Go figure!

That vehicle looks like it is ready for tags, though it won't pass inspection in a lot of places until you paint it. Don't want to blind the rest of the population.
I would drive it, if it were me.

Just another thought...if you're really not interested in keeping it. You may not get the cash you want in today's economy; but, don't forget the almighty power of bartering and trading!!! If you're looking for something else, put it out there. Be specific about what you want in return. To me, this levels the playing field in situations like this. Someone may have something worth a considerable amount of money, but it's useless to the them; and, they want what you have!!!
