While not super common most manufacturers will do this to utilize parts that otherwise would have to be scrapped. Seen it many, many times. That's why it is standard practice to measure the journals. Not just for wear but to see if the factory or a previous owner has made a change from what should be the original machined diameter of the journals.

    I agree. 99.9% or whatever.

That doesn't tell you how much the journal may be worn though.

You should not assume the last person inside that engine installed the correct bearing shell or even fitted it correctly.

The best advice is for the man whose wallet is exposed to be very cautious and check it himself.;)

Well, I heard back from Midwest Willys this morning. They were very apologetic to my problems with the bad seals and will be issuing me a full refund for the two seals I purchased from them. They also said they will be removing the add to cart button for this seal on their website until the issue can be resolved. Now this kind of customer service is a rarity and truly a breath for fresh air. I will now be making them my preffered vendor for future purchases of which I am sure there will be plenty.

Got the new seal in yesterday from John Bizal at Midwest Military (952)-440-8778 Installed it in the block today. Fit like a glove!!!!!!!! Finally,,,,,,Relief. My crank truns smooth as butter. I can finally start putting her back together. I hope someone can learn from my miserable experience and not have to go through what I have gone through. I still don't think I would attempt to install one from underneath though. Maybe it could be done but not as good as with the engine out.
