Maybe the mounting? Personally I don't like high back seats because they reduce visibility.

holes in seat bottom won't line up with early frames . but anything is possible
fabrication is the key here (y)

  4. They probably won't fit with out modifying the mounts so they're not bolt-in seats.

Personally I don't know who does. As indicated fabrication might be in order.

Jeepster: I looked at website for your seats. The instructions refer to underseat sliders. I don't have sliders for my original seat frames (1966 cj5, f4). Only three bolt hole positions for driver. Do you have seat sliders? Smittybilt instructions make me question whether the seats are truly direct fits for ECJ5s, without PITA installation.

Let us know after they arrive. I'd like some new buckets too.

they are not direct fits...they do work pretty well for intermediate models, but you are going to need some fab work for an early. On mine, the driver side fit fine on the slider and frame for the driver side, but the passenger side with the pivot frame needed some fab. I ended up returning them and using my old seats (new upholstery), but the fab work didn't look to be too hard. Also, remember the smittybilts don't fold, although you can definitely still tip it forward to access the toolbox. I think they are pretty good seats - fabric and seams appeared just a tad cheap compared to the upholstery work i had done, but then again, they cost only a fraction of such work.

Yep, going to have to fab for the passenger side. That is what I am trying to get straight. I had attempted one, but my head was about 4" over the top of the windshield.

The problem I have with both the Smittybuilt seats is they are very firm foam, and are thick. You sit "on" the seat rather than "in" the seat. This put you several inches higher, and the seat doesn't act as a suspension system like the original seat were. They look right ( at least the lowbacks!), but don't work right, in my opinion.

they are almost 100 bucks, and to have the dealer ship to me, or i would go to the dealer to pick them up, cost is actually cheaper for the seats i bought from morris, shipped free, directly to my house.

I went with the Bestop lowbacks, TrailmaxII
I read that the Smittybuilt's sat up higher, which I didn't want. Like mentioned in above posts, the drivers was a direct bolt on replacement. The passenger side I had to make 2 brackets.

Am I the only one who thinks that $200 is a fair price for a complete seat? Especially from an OEM manufacturer?

that is because compared to having old seats reupholstered, $200 seems like a good deal. I still think about the amount of jeep money I'd have if I had used the $100 smittybilts instead. Wouldn't have seat heaters, wouldn't have fold and tumble, wouldn't have super nice seats....but would have significantly more money!
