transmission/transfer case paint

I love the color of the Martin Senour (Napa) Cast Iron 7250 rattle can paint. Anyone have any insight as to whether or not this stuff will work on a transmission and transfer case? I don't know how well this paint stands up to heat and I'm not sure if the transmission/transfer case will burn it off. Ideas?

    It's a '72 T-14 and a Dana 20, in case that matters.

The trans. and transfer case don't get anywhere near hot enough to burn off regular spray paint.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to make sure. I saw one site that said to use manifold paint. That seemed like overkill to me.

What Patrick said. One thing I'd suggest is use something with some shine. It seems to resist corrosion much better as water, mud, etc sheds much better.

Good point. I do like the cast iron look though. I'll probably put several coats on for the water/mud issue. The Napa 7250 is kind of a semi gloss. Not real shiny but not flat either. Although the bodies of the trans/transfer are pretty rough, I'm thinking of an etching primer just to make sure the paint sticks solid enough given the proximity to the ground, rocks, sticks, mud, muck, etc. etc.

If the transmission/Tcase get hot enough to destroy the paint, I don't think the paint will be your biggest concern. I just use a quality gloss black on mine and make sure they are very clean before painting. And I have come to really dislike any other colors. I believe the factory was either no paint (rust), or black.

Shiny paint is more durable. Flat paint is made by adding a flattening agent (ie powdered talc) to shiny paint. Adding filler does not help durability.

I like Aluthane. It gives the kind of finish you want, and it's very tough. But it's very sensitive to exposure to air and moisture - follow the advice on the web site. It will harden into a block of solid plastic if the can is leaky ... BTDT! http://www.epoxyproducts.com/aluthane.html

Yup, high gloss. I also like light colors. I prefer not to hide leaks but to find and eliminate them. Used this Krylon Farm & Implement (Caterpillar yellow, of course) about five years ago and it has held up very well.
