Will the stock 304 heads from a 77 CJ5 swap onto a stock 74 cj5 304? In other words, same 304 heads used for both years? Thanks

Yea they will. The 304's from 72-78 had the best performance ratings in CJ's.

Don't the 360 heads and manifolds fit also?

Manifolds yes. Heads no. The 360/401 valves are bigger - they fit the 360/401 because of the larger bore size. In a 304, there can be interference between the 360 valves and the block. The block can be relieved to clear the bigger valves, but it's said to be pointless because the smaller bore then shrouds the bigger valves. Supposedly. There are people that put bigger valves in the 304 heads, but as I recall they start with 304 heads and fit larger Chevy valves.

If you want 360 heads, you may as well get a 360. It drops right in to replace the 304, and is the most cost-effective power boost for a 304. You need a 360 flywheel, but it's bolt-in otherwise.

In my area a 360 is cheaper and more plentiful than the 304's. I purchased a 360, rebuilt is then sold the 304.
