Twin stick D20 question

Discussion in 'Intermediate CJ-5/6/7/8' started by aallison, May 22, 2012.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I know the D20 and D18 are totally different on the shifter end of things. But how hard would it be to adapt the D18 twin stick set up to a D20? A little welding and some minor fab work or a major deal?

It would have to be fairly easy and cheap to beat the $120 or so it costs to buy one from JB Fab or whatever.....

If you have time and equipment/materials laying around its easy to do. If not then money ahead to buy the kit pre-made. I started building them years ago and with time, materials, etc. was added up it was almost cheaper for customers to buy a kit from JB Fab that was nicer than I could build because of their stainless steel construction.

It is pretty easy to build a twin stick. Here is what I did.

Do you have any pics from the front? That looks really easy to build.

No I dont, and I dont have the jeep anymore either. Each of the flat pieces has a small tubular piece welded to the side that keeps the sticks from rotating on the piviot rod. The pivot rod is weleded to a larger pice of tube that slides over the Origional mount for the shift mechanism.

The two straps are twisted 90* and drilled to accept the pins that connect them to the shift rod and the shifter.

This is much simpler than stock but it does reverese the normal directions for high and low range.

  11. hey anyone I have an older twin stick parts transfer case, can i just change the whole shifting rail setup from single to double?

Is the parts transfer case an 18? If so the only useful parts are the sticks, knobs, and anti rattle clips. The only factory twin stick 20's I'm aware of were a couple years of Scout 800.
