The Wrangler issue is caused by the brake line rubbing and eventually wearing a hole in it. This then sprays brake fluid all over the hot exhaust manifold where it spontanteously combusts. I have seen several owner stories on various jeep forums where this occured. The fix is pretty easy.

I have seen some pretty worn thru lines before I replaced them. If you get a recall notice about them. Take it in.

My B-I-L has a '10, manual trans. Where are these lines rubbing? I'd like to give him a heads-up.
I've searched, but can only find fire risk related to boil over of auto-tranny fluid... nothing on brake lines.
Any info on this, or a link?

I will have to try and find the link again to the story I read.
The brakes lines were rubbing on the body or fender not far from the master cylinder.

The lines rub on the plastic wheel liner on the fronts at the frame. the brake line gets pinched between the liner and frame. I think in 10 they modified the liner so it sits higher and they added an actual metal nut that holds the liner up. The problem i've seen is the plastic pushpin type retainer used before 10 drops down and allows the liner to drop lower onto the brake line at the frame. The right and left sides do it.

When we do the recall we take out the plastic retainer and replace it with the metal nut and then trim the wheel liner so its like the newer 10 and up. And replace the brake lines if they are rubbed at all.
