yj spring swap

After searching for hours on end, I've come to the conclusion that there are no yj/ wrangler spring swap build up pics. Only pics of the actual jeep that has them with only the specs of the spring. I'd like to know, is it necessary to extend the front frame horns to have a stock wheelbase using yjs? Or,is it possible to leave the frame all stock no extending at all and have the front axle positioned properly. I'm asking because after measuring the stock suspension points and how long the yj's are it looks like the new brackets will work without extending the frame and using a 5-6" long shackle. I would rather not shackle reverse.

That 1st article still had no real info on putting the yj's up front. It was mostly just a rear yj conversion. And thanks for the link but holbrook springs will not be used on this project. I like being able to go to a vehicle salvage yard to get replacement springs.

I'm going to assume at this point that putting the shackle hanger as far forward as I can will be all I need for the swap.

 

Basically want I did is centered the spring as close as possible to the original location of the axle. My mounts are currently just tacked into place so I can move them if need be once everything is mounted back onto the fame. As of right now I still have a couple inches I can move the front hanger

Nope, no need to extend either end of the frame. I used these CJ7 shackle hangers and mounted them so that they were flush with the end of the front and rear crossmembers respectively. Wheelbase ended up at 81" I believe, everything looks centered in the wheelwells. Thats a great thread/build. Jeep came out nice. Don't know how your thread never came up..? Do you have any full on side shots of your jeep? It really is nice to know I wont have to extend the frame. Thank you.

 

According to this link http://www.generalspringkc.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=141&pg=1 a YJ Spring is 22 11/16.
Flatfender spring, http://www.generalspringkc.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=146&pg=1 , 18 1/8.
Simple math says the spring mounts need to be moved ~4.5 away from center.
Depending if you make or buy the shackle mounts plus the shackle length will dictate the exact mounting.

 

Here's some various pics. I'm using MORE YJ shackles, and BDS 3.5" 5-leaf YJ springs. I need to get longer shocks, as they're limiting my travel in both directions.
