To paint a CJ5? Top, bottom, inside, outside, all the bitties.

Assume 2 coats high build primer and two coats single stage (Nason for the picky- Yes, I know, but it's all I can get locally).

I'm having at it this weekend & don't want run out, neither do I want an extra gallon kicking around for 10 years, by which time it'll probably be bad. :(

    Thanks,

    H

Don't forget to factor in the ratio of reducer/hardener/paint if it's a catalyzed system.
A quart of color will go a bit farther depending on the ratio.
I bought a gallon of enamel and have a bit left over after an entire repaint as you're describing.
Solid color? Single stage urethane? Clear coat or no?

i just did mine. i bought a gallon. 3-4 coats of single stage ensures a nice even coat. heck the first coat is only a tack coat. i sprayed everything; under hood inside fender etc. i did not however paint the inside of the tub. that i used herculiner. i have about a quart left. i'd alway rather have too much than not enough. if you are painting your inside tub too you'll need the whole gallon. i like having a little left over for painting the dash and touch ups later if needed.
$260 gallon of red ppg single stage plus hardener and reducer= $360.

Paint is bought. The counter guy crunched the numbers, with activater & reducer mixed in a gallon of Nason single stage urethane should give me enough to do three coats on everything. I'll update next week with the actual results.

Price? Just out of curiosity. I need to buy some single-stage for the VW lid.

on the 3b 2 coats color 2 coats clear = 2 quarts that yielded 1 gal after reducers / hardeners ect and still had enough left over for touch ups

  12. six cans of camo rustoleum

OK, painting is done- sort of.

I bought one gallon of paint & I got two coats on with about half of it left. It should have had three coats but time & weather were against me. :( I'll fix the problem spots next spring but it's good enough now that Tonk can go back together this winter. :)

    Tim-

1 gallon of Nason single stage urethane = 159.51
    1 gallon reducer = 33.89
    1 quart activator = 83.83

Disclaimer- above prices do not include taxes, gas or vending machine jelly beans while waiting for the old fart ahead of me trying to figure out what he needed for touchup paint on his Lexus.
