    Gang,
    I have a 1957 CJ-5/M38....
I have just had the Hurricane engine totally rebuilt by a pro Willys Jeep shop - yes, it was not cheap. All parts are new inside the engine. Has 20 miles on it.
Sadly, I may need to sell her. The body is no rust , the tailgate is not the original.
Ideas on price range with a rebuilt, original engine?

    many thanks

    T

    OK, pictures are up
    F4 is newly rebuilt
    Runs great.

Thoughts on value and can are their tricks to increasing the speed above 35? :)

  4. 35?? We have a '57 with an F head 4cly. Ours goes pretty comfortably down the road at 50mph. 54 mph if down hill with a tailwind. This is without an overdrive or anything like that.

I have a 62 with the f head and it will run all day long at 50 yes it is running kinda hard but the f head is a tough little motor. It has the 5.38 gears in it as well.

When in doubt, check it with a GPS.
I've seen speedo's that were off 5-10 mph, either too fast or too slow.

    mb82 I feel great!

Don't go off of the sound, look a the tach. These engines can run 3500 RPM all day long without an issue. Heck the Military ran then at 4K all day for 24 hours without issues when testing them.

Are you getting wide open throttle with the gas pedal to the floor? Check it with the engine not running.
