Where would I find the difference between the bolt spread for the adapter where it bolts to the bell-housing. I need to know if the T-15 adapter for the 225V6 will bolt to the SBC bell-housing. TIA Walt.

Yes, there's just the "GM adapter", not specific to Chevy or Buick. No difference in the pattern at the transmission end. The bellhousings are the same depth, and the bellhousing determines the engine bell pattern. (Assuming you have the plate adapter, and not a bellhousing adapter).

Yup, the standard GM transmission pattern is the same between Buick and Chevrolet. One thing to watch for on the Chev bellhousing, if it was used behind the SM-465 the indexing hole will be larger because of the larger front bearing retainer and input bearing.

So, would a bell housing that came behind a Jeep/Buick V6 bolt directly onto a Chevy 4.3?

No. Jeep, Buick bell housing will fit Buick and jeeps with a Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac or Cadillac engine. You need a chev. bellhousing to fit the 4.3.

Not quite true-all those engines share the same bolt pattern (the so-called "BOP" pattern) but some have the starter on the opposite side. I don't remember offhand which is which.

    mb82 I feel great!

Just to clarify, the Olds Buick and Cadillac share the same BOP pattern. The 4.3 uses the standard Chevy Small Block bolt pattern.

Yeah, that's correct...but this set me back and I needed clarification (having very little Buick V6 background)

    I had visions of a 4.3 bolting to a jeep T90 without $500 adpaters!!

That's still possible, but you need the Chevy bell. I've seen the '66-70 factory T86 or T14 adapter redrilled to fit the T90. Then you choose the BOP or Chevy bell to fit your application. IIRC the top bolt holes are right, but you need to drill/tap the bottom two holes for the T90.

If you want to save money, follow the used parts market and buy a used GM-T90 adapter. They come up pretty often. Watch eBay, Willystech, and all the other Jeep forums.

The chevy bell you are talking about came behind the GM iron duke 4 cyl?...is that correct?
I am interested in getting a T90 coupled to a 4.3 V6 for as little as possible....confer your knowledge and tell me what years, etc can make this work?

    Thanks

No - just a plain, generic SBC bell. Aside from the SM465 bell mentioned by Nick, they bolt up to the adapter - that's the point of the adapter.

I got that from the novak site when looking for a GM bell housing adapter to my T-14. Is that because I don't need one?

The more I read about putting a Chevy bolt pattern engine in my 1970 CJ5 with the factory V-6, the more confused I get.

    waynaferd Hey, ya'll watch this!!

:dead horse: There is a smiley for me!!! LOL

Anyway, so the adapter I have on the back of my 225 bellhousing *should* bolt right on back of a 4.3 bellhousing?

The reason I ask a Vortec 4.3 hooked to a 5-speed in a fullsize truck just came up for sale hellokitty

    Thanks!!

If the 5 speed from the full size GM truck is an NV-4500 they also use a different transmission bolt pattern and many have the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder on the passenger side which can interfere with the front drive line. Take a close look at it before purchase. The NV-4500 is a great transmission, I put one in my CJ-6 project and have run into these issues. Be aware that transmission is very long and won't fit in an early CJ-5 without lengthening the wheel base....

Ooh, thanks for the slave cyl info....woulda skipped over it!! I just want the motor, and it being a standard means I'll have the bellhousing I need as well.

Would love to have a 5 speed, but it would take waaaay to much work and I'm trying to keep this mostly stock......looking :D

Thanks again I'm going over this afternoon and hopefully driving it home!!

Does the adapter need a 4 5/8 center hole?

Just my luck, I got the only "generic SBC Bell" that isn't. It's off a 1963 Corvette and it has a 4-1/8.
